Janet B. Veenema finds satisfaction in creating order from chaos—a process rooted in the mental chaos of working experimentally rather than following a well-defined approach from start to finish. This philosophy informs both her abstract and representational works. Each painting or mixed media piece begins with a spark of an idea that can take minutes, hours, or even months to fully develop.
Janet emphasizes the importance of maintaining a relaxed and flexible mindset, finding joy in the problem-solving aspects of two-dimensional art—a skill honed through the foundation she gained as an art education student years ago. An avid reader of art books, she draws inspiration from the concepts and ideas these texts offer, as well as the enjoyment they bring. Serendipity often plays a key role in her creative process, leading to some of her most successful work. Guided by her muse, Janet embraces choices and the freedom to explore.
